Palestijns Theater: drie hedendaagse teksten

(NL) In samenwerking met Mint Arts Platform presenteert NTGent, in het kader van Eye on Palestine, een muzikale reflectieavond rond Palestijns Theater. Palestijns Theater (2025) is een uitgave van Bebuquin en Mint Arts Platform en bundelt drie theaterstukken van een nieuwe generatie Palestijnse theatermakers: Bashar Murkus, Dalia Taha en Rimah Jabr.

De avond begint met een inleiding door Cees Vossen (Mint Arts Platform) en Aïcha Mouhamou, die samen de theaterstukken kaderen binnen de ontwikkeling van het hedendaagse Palestijnse theater en het Arabische Repertoire Project. Vervolgens brengen Atta Nasser, Rimah Jabr en Sara De Bosschere een meertalige voordracht van fragmenten uit de drie teksten – in het Arabisch, Engels en Nederlands. Hun woorden worden versterkt door de muzikale begeleiding van Yamen Martini. Tot slot volgt een gesprek over ‘Dit is NIET wat ik je wil vertellen’ met Rimah Jabr (auteur en regisseur) en Brigitte Herremans (Midden-Oostenexpert aan de UGent en auteur van de recente Paul Verbraekenlezing: Palestina – Verzet tegen het verlies).

(ENG) In collaboration with Mint Arts Platform, NTGent presents, within the framework of Eye on Palestine, a musical evening of reflection on Palestinian Theatre. Palestinian Theatre (2025), published by Bebuquin and Mint Arts Platform, brings together three plays by a new generation of Palestinian theatre-makers: Bashar Murkus, Dalia Taha, and Rimah Jabr.

The evening begins with an introduction by Cees Vossen (Mint Arts Platform) and Aïcha Mouhamou, who will together frame the plays within the context of contemporary Palestinian theatre and the Arab Repertoire Project. Following this, Atta Nasser, Rimah Jabr, and Sara De Bosschere will present a multilingual reading of excerpts from the three texts—in Arabic, English, and Dutch. Yamen Martini’s musical performance will accompany their words. The evening concludes with a conversation about This Is NOT What I Want to Tell You with Rimah Jabr (author and director) and Brigitte Herremans (Middle East expert at Ghent University and author of the recent Paul Verbraeken Lecture: Palestine – Resistance Against Loss).
