Dit cultureel festival zet een maand lang Palestina in de kijker aan de hand van films, lezingen, gesprekken, concerten, theater, tentoonstellingen en andere activiteiten. De organisatie bestaat uit meer dan vijftig Gentse partners, zowel uit de brede cultuursector, als middenveldorganisaties uit onderwijs en welzijn.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Van 24 april tot 29 mei loopt de negende editie van het festival Eye on Palestine, verspreid over verschillende locaties in de stad Gent. Het thema \u2018Verzet\u2019 vormt de rode draad doorheen verschillende vormen van artistieke expressie en maatschappelijk debat. Hierbij ligt de focus op de verhalen en het werk van Palestijnse artiesten, zowel uit de diaspora als Palestina zelf. Het centrale ontmoetingspunt is Palestina Caf\u00e9, deze keer te vinden in Giftshop Gent (Graffitistraatje).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voor de campagne van het festival werkt de organisatie samen met Palestijns kunstenaar Hamada El Kept, werkzaam in Gent en Brussel. Binnen zijn artistieke praktijk behandelt hij thema\u2019s als surveillance, ontheemding en collectief geheugen. Zijn werk vormt het affichebeeld van de huidige editie, en zal ook te zien zijn op de tentoonstelling Evocation.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De openingsavond vindt plaats in Bar Edward met een keynote over het thema \u2018Verzet\u2019, en een vernissage van de tentoonstelling Evocation waar vier Palestijnse beeldende kunstenaars te zien zijn. Het festival kent een brede waaier aan activiteiten en evenementen; een lezing door Isra\u00eblisch historicus Ilan Papp\u00e9, een manifestatie voor bevrijding en vrijheid, tal van filmvoorstellingen waaronder de vertoning van Palestine36 in Kinepolis, een \u2018wilde ap\u00e9ro\u2019 rond kleinschalig verzet, een concert van 47SOUL in De Centrale, en een drag performance door Sherine Falasteen. Het overgrote deel van de activiteiten is compleet gratis, en voor de betalende activiteiten wordt gebruik gemaakt van het UitPAS kansentarief.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eye on Palestine biedt een artistiek programma aan dat direct inspeelt op de actualiteit. In het licht van de genocide in Palestina, wordt ook de link gelegd met de systematische destructie in Libanon, Iran en Syri\u00eb. Met de Palestijnse zaak als vertrekpunt worden bredere maatschappelijke thema\u2019s aangekaart zoals mensenrechten, ecologie, duurzaamheid, archivering, positionaliteit, activisme en vrijheid. Zoals in het Festival Statement bondig gesteld wordt: &#8216;Our programming consciously amplifies the voices that challenge the imperialist status quo and the institutional silence sustaining the occupation.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het festival vloeide voort uit een gedeelde noodzaak van Gentse makers, activisten en cultuurhuizen om een platform te bieden aan Palestijnse stemmen, verhalen en artiesten.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De link met de stad Gent is het meest zichtbaar in de brede coalitie van partners. Eye on Palestine is een structurele samenwerking tussen tal van Gentse organisaties uit diverse sectoren (o.a. VIERNULVIER, Sphinx Cinema, S.M.A.K., De Centrale, Splinter, Ha Concerts, UGent, Trefpunt, Kunsthal Gent, Gents Kunstenoverleg en diverse grassroots-collectieven). Deze partners stellen hun infrastructuur ter beschikking, waardoor het festival verspreid over de hele stad plaatsvindt, zowel in het centrum als in de wijken (Brugse Poort, Sluizeken-Tolhuis-Ham, Sint-Amandsberg).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Praktische informatie&nbsp;:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eye on Palestine loopt van 24 april tot 29 mei 2026.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het partnerschap EOP 2026 bestaat onder meer uit de volgende organisaties: Vrede vzw, Trefpunt Festival vzw, De Centrale, GKO, Splinter vzw, VIERNULVIER, Kunsthal Gent, Gentse Coalitie voor Palestina, Curieus, Avansa regio Gent, Ha Concerts, Democrazy, Manoeuvre, Compagnie Cordial, Een Hart voor Vluchtelingen, Rokko, NTGent, Mint Arts Platform, Campo, Ledebirds, De Koer, Cin\u00e9 Rio, Muziekcentrum De Bijloke, Sos Gaza, De Vieze Gasten, UGent (onderzoeksgroepen CAIMES &amp; MENARG), KASKcinema, Palestine Film Institute, Beitna, Victoria Deluxe, S.M.A.K., Plica vzw, Blad Lijm Schaar, Giftshop, Palestine Caf\u00e9 Ghent en Topocopy,&#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vanaf 24 april gaat het Gents festival Eye on Palestine van start.
