Perzen. Triomf van Empathie is een bijzondere theaterproductie geregisseerd door Chokri Ben Chikha. In deze voorstelling onderzoekt hij samen met zes performers hoe ze meer begrip en inlevingsvermogen kunnen tonen in een conflict dat al tientallen jaren speelt: het conflict tussen Isra\u00ebl en Palestina. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ze doen dit door te kijken naar een van de oudste toneelstukken uit de geschiedenis, De Perzen van de Griekse schrijver Aeschylus. Dit stuk gaat over een oorlog tussen de Grieken en de Perzen, waarbij de schrijver zelf tegen de Perzen heeft gevochten. De vraag die centraal staat is: had Aeschylus empathie en begrip voor zijn vijand, of wilde hij vooral laten zien hoe superieur de Grieken waren? Door deze vragen te stellen, zoeken de performers naar verbanden tussen dit oude verhaal en de huidige genocide in het Midden-Oosten. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
De voorstelling, gebaseerd op interviews die Ben Chikha in januari 2024 afnam in Isra\u00ebl en Palestina, combineert woord, dans en muziek tot een wervelend en aangrijpend geheel. Perzen. Triomf van Empathie balanceert daarmee tussen kunst en realiteit, opportunisme en empathie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Persians. Triumph of Empathy is a unique theater production directed by Chokri Ben Chikha. In this performance, he, together with six performers, explores ways to show more understanding and empathy in a conflict that has persisted for decades: the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They approach this by examining one of the oldest plays in history, The Persians by the Greek playwright Aeschylus. This play deals with a war between the Greeks and the Persians, in which the writer himself fought against the Persians. The central question is: did Aeschylus have empathy and understanding for his enemy, or was he primarily aiming to demonstrate the Greeks’ superiority? By posing these questions, the performers draw connections between this ancient story and the current genocide in the Middle East.The production, based on interviews that Ben Chikha conducted in January 2024 in Israel and Palestine, weaves together words, dance, and music into a powerful and moving performance.
