In de zomer van 1982 viel het Isra\u00eblische leger Zuid-Libanon binnen en bereikte West-Beiroet, waar het Palestijns Research Centrum sinds 1965 een omvangrijk archief van foto\u2019s, films en documenten had opgebouwd. Dit archief werd als oorlogsbuit meegenomen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Met deze gebeurtenis als uitgangspunt construeert Kamal Aljafari een alternatief Palestijns visueel geheugen, dat hij \u201cde camera van de onteigenden\u201d noemt. A Fidai Film is een unieke mix van found footage en experimentele cinema, met collage-achtige elementen die dansen rond het rood van rouw en verzet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
De documentaire toont zeldzaam bewegend beeld van het Palestijnse leven voor en na de Nakba, begeleid door een geluidsband van Simon Fisher Turner en teksten van onder anderen Palestijnse schrijver Gassan Kanafani (1936-1972). Aljafari verweeft op po\u00ebtische wijze geschiedenis met kunst, verdriet met verlangen, verzet met sabotage. Elk beeld, elke montage, draagt de sporen van deze rijke, gelaagde mix van persoonlijke en collectieve herinneringen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the summer of 1982, the Israeli army invaded southern Lebanon and reached West Beirut, where the Palestinian Research Center had built up a vast archive of photographs, films and documents since 1965. This archive was taken as spoils of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The documentary shows rare moving images of Palestinian life before and after the Nakba, accompanied by a soundtrack by Simon Fisher Turner and texts by Palestinian writer Gassan Kanafani (1936-1972) and other dissident voices. Aljafari poetically interweaves history with art, grief with longing, resistance with sabotage. Each image and every edit bears the marks of this rich, layered mix of personal and collective memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
