De tentoonstelling Arab Comics Now \u2013 A Constellation of Voices introduceert een verscheidenheid aan stripgenres die de grenzen van sociale en politieke taboes doorbreken doorheen de Arabische wereld. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In de 20ste eeuw waren strips in de Arabische wereld uitsluitend gericht op kinderen. De heersende totalitaire autoriteiten (militair of religieus) maakten er gretig gebruik van om de sociale moraal te controleren en politieke en ideologische agenda’s op te leggen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Arabische revoluties van het afgelopen decennium maakten in verschillende Arabische landen de weg vrij voor onafhankelijke kunstenaarscollectieven. Alle gingen ze op zoek naar vrijheid van meningsuiting en naar het cre\u00ebren van een netwerk voor het delen van ervaringen. Dat alles heeft de stripscene vandaag vorm gegeven, een creatieve ontwikkeling die onverminderd verdergaat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Met strips van kunstenaars uit vijf collectieven introduceert deze tentoonstelling een verscheidenheid aan genres die de grenzen van sociale en politieke taboes doorbreekt, met een hoofdrol voor vrouwen. Deze collectieven en onafhankelijke kunstenaars zijn de stem van de jeugd in de hele regio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hun werk wordt aangevuld met dat van enkele cartoonisten uit Gaza, die om begrijpelijke redenen in de huidige omstandigheden niet aanwezig kunnen zijn. Programma Expo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
