From One Path to Another. De uit Frankrijk afkomstige contrabassist Basile Rahola is intussen een vaste waarde in de Belgische jazzscene, nadat hij eerder al de jazzclubs in Barcelona en omstreken veroverde. Naast zijn drukke carri\u00e8re als sideman leidt hij een eigen kwartet, waarmee hij zopas zijn tweede album From One Path to Another uitbracht bij het prestigieuze Igloo Records. Verwacht fijnzinnige melodie\u00ebn, krachtige eigen composities en vier muzikanten met een bijna telepathische chemie. Pianist Wajdi Riahi, drummer Pierre Hurty en tenorsaxofonist Matthias Van den Brande vormen samen met Basile Rahola een kwartet met een uitgesproken identiteit en een warm, volwassen geluid. Het album From One Path to Another ademt rust, maturiteit en diepe verbondenheid. In elk nummer hoor je de vrijheid van het samenspel: Wajdi\u2019s sprankelende improvisaties, Matthias\u2019 subtiele en omhullende klank, Pierre\u2019s precieze en delicate drumwerk, en Basile die zijn band met wijsheid en flexibiliteit leidt. Tijdens het concert wordt het kwartet ook even bijgestaan door de Palestijnse vocaliste Shahd Awawda, wiens expressieve stem voor extra kleur en emotie zorgt en de po\u00ebzie van Mahmoud Darwish tot leven wekt. Zo krijgt het concert een uitgesproken Palestijnse culturele dimensie en een bijzondere extra resonantie.
