Zineb Wakrim toont schoonheid in wat vaak als vreemd wordt gezien. Haar protagonisten zijn de 14-jarige Hasna en Samad, zogenaamde maanlichtkinderen die niet tegen zonlicht kunnen. Voor hen zijn kunst en schilderen manieren om te verzetten en het licht te vangen temidden van hun duisternis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mona Benyamin – Moonscape (2020, 17 min)
Moonscape is een muziekvideo-duet die het verhaal volgt van Dennis M. Hope, die de maan claimde in 1980 en sindsdien planetair onroerend goed verkoopt. Het nummer verbindt zijn verhaal met dat van de regisseur\u2014een jonge Palestijnse vrouw onder Isra\u00eblische bezetting, verlangend naar het be\u00ebindigen van het lijden van haar volk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Neo Nahda’ verwijst naar een nieuw tijdperk van verlichting, misschien suggereert het dat het doorzoeken van de archieven een noodzakelijke daad is om verloren of gecensureerde geschiedenissen te herleven. De film vertelt het verhaal van Mona, een jonge vrouw in Londen die gearchiveerde foto’s van Arabische vrouwen die zich in de jaren 1920 verkleedden als mannen, ontdekt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Niki Kohandel – The Sparrow is Free (2021, 14 min)
In een leeg huis hoort een jonge vrouw een stem die verhalen oproept over het verleden van haar grootmoeder. Niki Kohandel’s korte film duikt in de vroege 20e-eeuwse Iraanse genderrollen, en volgt de rebellie van haar grootmoeder tegen haar man en haar uiteindelijke verhuizing naar Frankrijk om een nieuw leven te beginnen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an empty house, a young woman hears a voice that evokes tales of her grandmother’s past. Niki Kohandel’s short film delves into early 20th-century Iranian gender roles, following her grandmother’s rebellion against her husband and eventual relocation to France to start a new life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
