Hij filmt de plat\u00adte\u00adlands\u00adbe\u00advol\u00adking tus\u00adsen twee vuren: de Isra\u00eblische artil\u00adle\u00adrie en de plaat\u00adse\u00adlij\u00adke feo\u00adda\u00adle heer\u00adsers. Van der Keuken toont de strijd van de Palestijnen als een klas\u00adsen\u00adstrijd. Hij ziet paral\u00adlel\u00adlen tus\u00adsen de klas\u00adsen\u00adte\u00adgen\u00adstel\u00adlin\u00adgen in Europa die nazis\u00adme en anti\u00adse\u00admi\u00adtis\u00adme een kans gaven en die in de Arabische wereld van de Palestijnen, als nieu\u00adwe bezit\u00adlo\u00adzen, een explo\u00adsie\u00adve situ\u00ada\u00adtie maken. De Palestijnse strijd, gericht op terug\u00adkeer naar hun land, werd door Van der Keuken in 1975 gezien in het per\u00adspec\u00adtief van een demo\u00adcra\u00adtisch Palestina, waar Joden en Palestijnen samen kun\u00adnen leven en werken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Basma Alsharif, O, Persecuted<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O, Persecuted maakt van het res\u00adtau\u00adre\u00adren van Our Small Houses, de Palestijnse mili\u00adtan\u00adte film van Kassem Hawal uit 1974, een per\u00adfor\u00adman\u00adce die enkel moge\u00adlijk is via film. Snelheid, licha\u00admen en de bewe\u00adging van het ver\u00adle\u00adden naar een toe\u00adkomst waar ide\u00ado\u00adlo\u00adgie met esca\u00adpis\u00adme botst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Basma Alsharif, Deep Sleep<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In de onmo\u00adge\u00adlijk\u00adheid ver\u00adke\u00adrend om naar Palestina te rei\u00adzen, gebruikt Basma Alsharif in Deep Sleep zelf\u00adhyp\u00adno\u00adse en meer\u00adde\u00adre beeld\u00adla\u00adgen als een manier om op twee plaat\u00adsen tege\u00adlijk te zijn en haar vader\u00adland te berei\u00adken, al is het dan ook maar via het medi\u00adum film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the context of Eye on Palestine, Art Cinema OFFoff proposes a film program and discussion inspired by Reem Shilleh and Gawan Fagard\u2019s recent article, Searching for the Palestinian Militant Image in Times of Existential Emergency: How can the moving image be in solidarity with political resistance? This text was commissioned by the Belgian film magazine Fant\u00f4mas (NL), and published jointly with MUBI Notebook (EN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the presence of Basma Alsharif, an artist and filmmaker of Palestinian origin, born in Kuwait, and raised between France, the US and the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Followed by a discussion between Basma Alsharif, Reem Shilleh and Gawan Fagard<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reem Shilleh is a researcher, curator, editor and artist, living and working between Brussels and Ramallah. Gawan Fagard is a researcher and lecturer (Z\u00fcrich University, Antwerp University, ULB &amp; RITCS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thank you to EYE Film Museum Amsterdam for the English subtitled 16mm copy of Johan van der Keuken\u2019s De Palestijnen (The Palestinians, 1975)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Johan van der Keuken, De Palestijnen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1975, on the eve of the Lebanese civil war, Johan van der Keuken travelled to southern Lebanon on behalf of the Netherlands Palestine Committee. He filmed the rural population between two fires: the Israeli artillery and the local feudal rulers. Van der Keuken shows the Palestinians\u2019 struggle as a class struggle. He sees parallels between the class divisions in Europe that gave Nazism and anti-Semitism a chance and those in the Arab world that make Palestinians, as newly dispossessed, an explosive situation. The Palestinian struggle, aimed at returning to their land, was seen by Van der Keuken in 1975 in the perspective of a democratic Palestine, where Jews and Palestinians could live and work together. The movie is at once personal and scientific: interviewing Palestinian refugees in Southern Lebanon who recount in their own words their experiences as refugees and resistance fighters, while also explaining the historical development of zionism and the Palestinian resistance through an analysis capitalism and imperialism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Basma Alsharif, O, Persecuted<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O, Persecuted turns the act of restoring Kassem Hawal\u2019s 1974 Palestinian militant film, Our Small Houses, into a performance possible only through film. One that involves speed, bodies, and the movement of the past into a future that collides ideology with escapism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Basma Alsharif, Deep Sleep<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Temporarily restricted from travel to the Gaza Strip because of border conflict, I undertook the study and practice of autohypnosis with the purpose of bi-locating into multiple places at once. Paired with field recordings rendered into a binaural beat soundtrack, Deep Sleep is made up of a year\u2019s worth of bi-location sessions recorded onto Super8mm film. The result is a movement through the ruins of ancient civilizations as embedded in modern civilization-in-ruins. Deep Sleep draws from the historical avant-garde cinema to produce an invitation to move through landscapes and transcend geographical borders in a collective act that discards memory in exchange for
