Join us on 28/05 at De Tuin van Heden for a Palestinian short movie night that explores personal memory, resilience, and the realities of daily life under occupation through three short films.

In the Waiting Room (2023, Moatasem Taha, 15 minutes) In a hospital waiting room in occupied Palestine, Hussien, a Palestinian from ’48 land (with Israeli citizenship), accompanies his newly widowed mother, Rashida, to a medical appointment. While Hussien is absorbed in his academic research, Rashida, who has not left her house in three months, attempts to connect with the people around her using her limited Hebrew.

Intersecting Memory (2025, Shayma’ Awawdeh, 21 minutes) Shayma’ was six years old when the Second Intifada broke out. More than twenty years later, she opens a box of old videotapes, sparking a search for childhood memories. In a voice-over addressed to her mother, who claims to be blessed with a poor memory, Shayma’ contrasts her own vivid childhood recollections, such as spying her birthday cake in a home confiscated by soldiers, with stark archival images of occupied Hebron. By intertwining personal trauma and collective history, the film becomes a moving dialogue with her mother and a profound tribute to all Palestinian mothers.

Zahra (2025, Hadi Shatat, 15 minutes) Zahra is a desperate garment factory worker in the final weeks of her pregnancy. Faced with an upcoming C-section operation she cannot afford, and failed by both an absent husband and an unsympathetic manager, she scrambles for overtime money before turning to a tragic loophole to cover the operational costs.

Doors open at 19:30 for drinks and Palestinian finger food.
The screenings starts after the sun has set (+/- 21:45)

We are looking forward to a beautiful, clear summer evening for this open-air screening.
